Wadi Rum Desert Secret Camp and Tours is a boutique family firm with purpose; we care about our guests, employees, suppliers, and the environments and communities that surround us. Our ethos has always been to support the well-being of people, society, and our planet, Earth.  
The world is facing many challenges. At Wadi Rum Desert Secret Camp and Tours, we believe in the ideals of sustainable development – leaving a better world to future generations – an ethos which remains at the forefront of our brand. Cultivating a symbiotic relationship with the host community and the environment, we embrace the Bedouin culture and preserve Wadi Rum desert. 

We follow four pillars in every aspect of our activities – local heritage, local culture, environment protection and social responsibility, as recommended by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).

1. Social Responsibility

Promote gender equality and diversity while respecting local culture.

Enforce strict child protection standards with suppliers and partners (UNICEF Child Protection).
Support education, community projects, and opportunities for women and youth.
Provide healthy, seasonal, and locally sourced food for guests and staff.
Prioritise employment and purchasing from local farmers, vendors, and artisans.
2. Local Heritage

Operate responsibly within the UNESCO-protected Wadi Rum desert (UNESCO Wadi Rum).

Preserve and protect natural and cultural landmarks and encourage responsible guest behaviour.
3. Local Culture

Support and preserve Bedouin traditions such as weaving, camel and goat care, bread baking, and storytelling.

Revive and share cultural practices that are at risk of disappearing.
Promote local cuisine through daily meals, cooking experiences, and guest participation.
4. Environmental Protection

Protect native plants, ecosystems, and desert landscapes.

Apply waste management principles: refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle.
Minimise food waste through composting and animal feeding.
Conserve water with low-flow systems and awareness campaigns.
Improve energy efficiency using LED lighting and sustainable practices.
Eliminate single-use plastics by encouraging refillable and reusable alternatives.
Offer educational programmes on Bedouin lifestyle and desert ecology.
Maintain small kitchen gardens for organic produce used at the camp.
5. Continuous Improvement

We regularly review our sustainability practices, train our staff, and work with suppliers and partners to improve environmental, cultural, and social performance in line with international standards for sustainable tourism in Jordan.
